Hiroto Kawabata

A novelist and science writer based in Tokyo, Japan.

 

 

Works

    Hiroto Kawabata's focus has always been on science, technology and wildlife. 

As a novelist, he has written around space exploration, financial engineering,

paleontology, epidemiology, and even math!

    Hiroto is a keen wildlife lover. The affection for wildlife has led him to author

non-fiction books on penguins, marine mammals and zoos.  In some of these, he used

his own photographs quite extensively.  This led some to consider Hiroto as

a nature photographer as well.

    He won "Science Journalist Prize 2018", awarded by JASTJ( the Japanese Association

of Science and Technology Journalists).

 

Background

    Hiroto majored "History and Philosophy of Science" at the University of Tokyo , then spent one year at Journalism School of Columbia University in the U.S.A. as a “Mobile-Columbia fellow.”

    He worked for Nippon TV, one of Japan's national networks as a news director in 1990s.  After this stint, He became a freelance writer.

・Participation in TV animation series "Ginga e Kickoff!!" as the original author(2012-13)
